Unfortunately…
Last September I was almost killed when I was doored while riding in the bike lane on Lincoln ave in Chicago. I tore a ligament in my shoulder and my hand, was in physical therapy for 3 months and couldn’t work for 8 months.
“We are committed to making Chicago the most bicycle-friendly city in the country, and safety is a very critical part of the plan,” Mayor Richard Daley said after the council passed the measure. “More than 6,000 crashes between bicycles and motor vehicles were reported in Chicago between 2001 and 2005. Unfortunately, 30 bicyclists were killed.”

Good Stuff
I think I have a good life;
I have a good family and good health.
Most of the time I’m happy with where I am or what I’m doing.
My birthday is soon but I’ve enjoyed each year more than the last.
I don’t have any dental cavities.
I live in Chicago which is full of interesting people and things.
I keep good people around me (which requires an occasional purge).
I don’t belong to any organization that tells me what to think, feel or do.
Ghost Bikes
I used to barrel through stop signs and red lights on my bike until I realized it’s sort of an asshole thing to do. Then I was doored and almost killed.
Then Matthew Manger Lynch was killed after running the light at Irving Park Rd and Lincoln which happens to be a gigantic six way intersection.
If you bike in a city like Chicago it’s a good idea to stop at red lights. You’ll stay alive and the people wizzing by you in their SUVs won’t be wishing they could hit you and get away with it.
